Edmond Sée
SÉE, EDMOND (1875–1959), French playwright. Born in Bayonne, Sée forsook the law to write witty plays analyzing human emotions. Mainly comedies in the 18th-century French classical tradition, these include the highly successful La brebis (1896), L'indiscret (1903), L'irrégulière (1913), La dépositaire (1924), and Charité (1932). He also wrote two romantic novels, Un cousin d'Alsace (1918) and Notre amour (1920), and critical works such as Le théâtre français contemporain (1928).
